About Electronic Filing
Return to: Electronic Filing for Individuals
West Virginia has been a part of the Joint Federal/State Electronic Filing Program since 1993 and has seen the program popularity increase each year.
Last year, over 433,000 West Virginians used e-file as the method of filing their IT-140 Resident, NR/PY, Amended and IT-140NRS tax returns. It's fast, it's accurate, and it's the preferred method for tax filing.
Refunds can be sent in about half the time and with Direct Deposit it's even faster. Balance Due filers can also transmit worry free tax returns and the balance of tax due is not due until April 15.
You can file your federal and state return at the same time or use the State Only option, which permits you to file your federal and state tax return at different times.
Tax preparers throughout the state offer e-file. To locate a preparer near you, go to the State Only Returns page and click the Tax Professional link.
